City of Myrtle Beach Accommodations Update

Myrtle Beach City Council passed emergency order #8 requiring accommodations businesses to implement procedures to comply with sanitation and hygiene guidelines to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

This order also includes a “soft” reopening period of May 1-May 15. During this time period, accommodations may honor existing reservations but may not accept new reservations from guests wishing to check-in within that timeframe. The emergency order does not bar accommodations businesses from accepting new reservation from guests wishing to check in May 16 and later.

The order also created the Myrtle Beach Coronavirus Task Force, an advisory committee that will monitor positive COVID-19 cases, supplies and compliance. The task force will make recommendations to City Council.

4.29.20 -The Department did want to take this opportunity to keep everyone informed as it concerns public swimming pool closures in SC. The Governor’s Office did extend the State of Emergency on April 27, 2020 by issuing Executive Order 2020-29, in effect extending all other previous Executive Orders still in effect at that time to include Executive Order 2020-18 closing public swimming pools and spas in the state of SC.

The Department does still require public swimming pools and spas in the state to remain closed in accordance with those orders until either the State of Emergency is lifted by the Governor or the Governor’s Office states public swimming pools may again be reopen to patron access. The Department does still maintain that all public swimming pool and spas must be closed a sign posted stating “No Swimming” or “Pool Closed” on the affected pool or pool enclosure, and that the pool area must be locked to patron access. The Department does not have an end date on when the State of Emergency will be lifted.

Again this order is a proactive action to prepare and respond to the ongoing and evolving public health threat posed by COVID-19. This measure is geared to closes public venue where transmission of the virus can occur by either person to person contact or contact with surfaces (doors, gates, lawn chairs, drinking water fountains, etc.). I do greatly appreciate your patience and your continued compliance with these Executive Orders as we work to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19 in SC.

On March 31, 2020 Governor McMaster issued executive order 2020-17.  This order directed several “non-essential” businesses, venues, facilities, services, and activities to remain closed to non-employees and not be open for access or use by the public.  The closures included spas and public or commercial swimming pools.  These types of business entities were required to close by Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 5:00 pm and remain closed until the SC state of emergency ends or is lifted by the Governor.
